The principle is simple: you do a drawing in as close to one continuous line as possible, without (as much as possible) looking at your paper. You move your eyes along the contours of the object or person in front of you, and move the pencil where your eye is going, and when you’re done you get to see the intricate (but sometimes utterly non-representational) correlation between what you were looking at and what you drew. It was perfect for me at the time. Because there was no expectation, I could relax and forget about my tremor and just draw. It was great. I decided, on December 31 of 2017, that I would do a blind contour drawing every evening until I was healed. I decided to draw portraits of people I was able to find online, so that I could sit on the edge of my bed and just take five minutes and do the exercise without self-judgment or worrying about what other people thought of my work. Just draw it and post it, and go to sleep! #blindcontours #contourdrawingshow
